Prepare the Environment
To prepare the students I reviewed the parts a story: character, setting, action, and emotion. We watched the story Pinkalicious and I modeled how to create a story and complete the parts of a story outline. When students were working independently, I ensured direct instruction was being give based on their needs so they could complete their story.
Students watched a tutorial that showed how to use book creator on an iPad and while students worked independently, they were given direct instruction on how to complete the task and student watched a student example for reference.
Provide the Learning Experience
Students saw a model for how to create a story outline and students watched a tutorial on how to make a book creator. When students work independently, they are creating their own story on the story outline and transferring it to book creator using a variety of digital tools. Student stories should be unique and direct instruction should guide students to incorporate all the parts of a story into the book creator app so they can share their book with the class.
