Task:
ASSURE Model divides technology integration into six phases. When it comes to integrating game-based learning into your instruction, which phase(s) do you think is the most critical? What are the elements/steps a teacher should pay particular attention to? Support your choices by citing sources from the module’s reading.
ASSURE:
The ASSURE model is used to effectively integrate technology into instructions using six phases. Each phase plays an important role in identifying the characteristics that create a successful lesson with game-based learning. However, there are two steps that I find particularly important to the ASSURE model set up.
Analyzing learners:
I think a crucial starting point for the ASSURE model that needs to be identified and carried out through the entire process is analyzing the learners. Individual learner needs come from their prior knowledge, background, and social emotional capacity. There is such a wide variety of games and technology that it is important to consider which items fit best with who your students are and how they learn. When analyzing learners, it is important to focus on general characteristics, specific entry competencies, and learning styles. By using pre assessments and observing your students you can analyze their needs and focus on what types of games and technology will help them be successful. I know as a kindergarten teacher I need to be mindful of their prior knowledge with technology and use concrete materials.
Evaluate and Revise:
This step is often overlooked in the ASSURE model, but it is critical to future student success. We need to focus on both assessing learner achievement and evaluating methods and media. The assessments need to match the objectives stated in the begging of the assure model. We also need to use assessments that are appropriate for the student learning goal. Kindergarten students may use an action or create something based on the level of blooms taxonomy. When evaluating our students, we also need to evaluate our methods and decide if the technology was meaningful and students were both motivated and involved. As educators we need to be able to adapt our future lessons to meet our students needs and be aware of what was successful in our methods and what needs to be changed for student success.
